It’s November – not December – and Deer Valley opened early for the first time in years! On Tuesday, November 29, the #2 ranked ski resort in the U.S. according to SKI magazine, opened with 35 trails, 9 lifts and 10″ of snow in the past 24 hours.
Although our staff couldn’t sneak out for any fresh turns, there were some lucky guests in line early at 8:15 a.m. and the resort’s dedicated team members were clearing chairlifts and getting prepped for the first morning of the season. Deer Valley is a special place for our community, as well as our meeting planners from all over the world, so today was an exciting day for everyone.
“The start of ski season always brings a lot of energy and anticipation and it’s even better when Mother Nature delivers ideal conditions right away,” Deer Valley President and Chief Operating Officer Todd Bennett said. “We are thrilled to have the snow for one of our earliest openings ever while still providing the exceptional on-mountain experience Deer Valley is known for.”
Resort officials also said they wanted to use the “unique opportunity … to provide early mountain access and quality ski conditions” as a thanks to Park City locals and resort staff. And we here at Summit Events are certainly appreciative. Having three world-class ski resorts, including the largest ski resort in the country in Park City Mountain and action sports hub Woodward Park City, makes winter a magical place for our guests and clients.
Deer Valley, a ski-only resort, is full of secret stashes (like Ontario Bowl – shh!), and also offers early morning First Tracks, a fun, competitive and easily accessible race course in NASTAR, and the opportunity to ski with a Winter Olympian like Chris Waddell, Trace Worthington, Kaylin Richardson, Shannon Bahrke and more.
While the skiing is world-class, so is the spectacular dining. From the raclette cheese at Fireside Dining to the tasty vegetarian options at The Mariposa to the offerings at Snow Park Lodge and Silver Lake Restaurant (turkey chili, anyone?), there is something for everyone.
And while you’re thinking of how quickly you can get here to Park City, we’d be remiss not to mention the stellar lodging properties. Slopeside access via Stein Eriksen Lodge, voted the United States’ “Best Ski Hotel 2022” by World Ski Awards, is one of the most iconic alpine spots in the country. The Chateaux, with its newly renovated outdoor heated pool and amazing Italian restaurant, Cena, is also located at 8,000′ at mid-mountain and is most certainly worth a visit. Montage Deer Valley, a renowned elegant property is also slopeside and sits next to Empire Lodge, a quintessential mountain lodge available during the ski day or for private functions in the evening. St. Regis sits at the base of the resort and is yet another exquisite venue for groups and private events. And there are just some of the many outstanding hotels near the resort!
